Sketchbooking

My brain isn't always stimulated at work (gasp!), so recently, I've decided to challenge myself to go back to the basics. AKA drawing. And to keep myself accountable, I've created an Instagram account specifically to showcase my scribbles. To avoid burnout, I'm starting with a rule to post 3 things a week.

Check out my progress @MLF_Sketchbook ! You can help keep me motivated :-)

One thing that always stuck with me when I was in college, was the importance of being prolific. I would be learning about different artists and their habits, and it seemed that just the act of making art, good or bad, seemed to propel them to success. One of my favorite artists, Kiki Smith, is just that kind of artist. She is always making things. Her imagination is always at work. #goals

And while I doubt this will bring me any fame, I think it will give people insight into my brain and style, and my loves of animals and nature.

Spotting work IRL

I think that when you are a designer, there's always got to be a thrill when spotting your work out in the real world! Like with the recent Ventra App campaign I worked on, I try my very hardest to resist the urge to take a picture of a car card every time I get on the L going to and from work.

I am also extremely proud of the Loop Link work that's also out there right now. One of the fancy new bus shelters constructed for Loop Link was picked for a press event introducing the new bus system, and they plastered my bus shelter poster all over it!

Also very recently, while scrolling through LinkedIn, I spotted it again:

Shout out to Zoretta Williams, the awesome production manager who sent these puppies into the world!

Be still my heart: My Loop Link work front and center by the "J" in JC Decaux! I mean, even if JC Decaux was talking about the actual bus shelter, a little part of me likes to think he thought to himself, "Damn, those are some sweet bus shelter posters!"

Here's a better shot I took myself right before the launch:
